Train cancellations continue on the Malaga-Fuengirola line
CANCELLATIONS continued this week on the Cercanias train line between Malaga and Fuengirola
The cancellation of Cercanias trains in the province of Malaga seems to have no end in sight, as Renfe announced today that for Tuesday August 31, then Wednesday and Thursday, six more trains will be cut on line C-1 between Malaga and Fuengirola, citing the absence of five train conductors for various reasons, and that it is still the summer vacation period.
Renfe apologized to passengers for the disruption of its services, saying they were trying to inform them as soon as possible, through the various channels at stations and local trains in Malaga, including the public address system, and a told passengers that a worst-case scenario is to wait 20 minutes for the next train.
Miguel Montenegro, the general secretary of CGT, the train drivers union in Andalusia, said this situation will continue to happen unless more drivers are hired, “we expect more cancellations because now are coming the train drivers’ September vacation, “adding,” unless people are transferred quickly to cover sick leave, which doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, “as he pointed out,” those sick days and these vacations should be planned, but the negligence of the service is absolute ”.
Mr. Montenegro stressed that the problem is not only a shortage of drivers, “there is not a single inspector, it means that people are used to traveling without a mask or traveling without paying between stations which do not ‘have no turnstiles, in Alora nobody pays “.
