The mainland, which includes the popular resorts of the Costa del Sol and the Costa Blanca, tops the list of value-for-money destinations with a score of 92 out of 100.

According to a survey of 2,000 adults, Spain’s Canary Islands took second place with 91. Greece was third with 89 for value.

Post Office Travel Money research also placed Turkey, Portugal, Croatia and Mexico in the top 10.

Bulgaria, traditionally a budget destination, slipped out of the top 10 at number 12. Its score of 80 puts it behind Thailand, Malta and Cyprus. And although France and Italy were popular destinations, they were considered expensive countries to visit.
