Previously, she worked for major Ukrainian TV channels. The editorial staff of Radio Liberty expresses its sympathy to the family of Vira Girich and will remember her as a brilliant and kind person, a true professional.

Original 7:55 p.m. (April 28) BREAKING NEWS: Explosions have been reported in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with video footage showing a confirmed missile strike.

On April 28, reports of two large explosions on Thursday evening several miles east of downtown Kyiv flooded social media. The alleged missile strike comes as United Nations chief Antonio Guterres travels to Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Zelensky.

Svitlana Vodolaha, spokesperson for the Ukrainian State Emergency Services, said: “The bombings in kyiv caused casualties, but we don’t know how many. Two shots. News of the explosions in Kyiv comes at a time of growing tension between the two sides with reports of a Ukrainian who was allegedly tortured by Russian forces for 12 days with a severed finger and four broken ribs, as well as the General Staff of the Army of Ukrainian Forces publicly announcing official combat casualty figures inflicted on Russian forces.
